Founder, Stitch & Speak: Worker Voice Initiative

  • I designed and implemented a 20-point well-being framework encompassing initiatives such as workplace crèches, grievance redressal systems, and morning exercise routines to enhance worker well-being and productivity. To ensure long-term sustainability, I trained and empowered over 20 shop-floor workers as Empathy Leaders, enabling the model to be driven internally. This initiative resulted in a 20% improvement in employee well-being and a 10% reduction in attrition. The framework has since been adopted by three factories and integrated into their HR protocols. The project was commended by the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association, endorsed by factory owners, recognized by the Labour Inspector, and featured in the media for reimagining worker voice in India’s garment sector.

Beat the heat initative

  • Designed and led a workplace heat resilience campaign, successfully fundraising ₹50,000 to purchase cooling jackets for mining workers. These jackets significantly reduce body heat in hot climates, directly improving working conditions and safety for 100 workers during peak summer months.

Worksite Safety Lead

  • Conducted three comprehensive training sessions on mining protocols, health hazards, and safety standards.
  • Recruited and onboarded five doctors to provide practical, hands-on first-aid instruction.
  • Trained 50 workers, many of whom received formal safety guidance for the first time.
  • Earned recognition from site management for significantly improving emergency preparedness and safety awareness in a high-risk mining environment.

I challenged Eurocentric frameworks of worker well-being through a field study grounded in South Indian labor contexts. By interviewing over 50 garment workers across three factories in Tiruppur, I analyzed the cultural, economic, and emotional dimensions often excluded from global well-being metrics. Drawing from these insights, I authored a 5-point policy brief proposing worker-informed reforms.
